As part of the sales and tendering team, you will be responsible for quoting high value projects and producing detailed cost estimates, winning bid submissions, bid presentations, contract negotiations and eventual handover to electrical engineering projects teams, in accordance with the Powersystems agreed business strategy and requirements.

Duties and responsibilities of the role include, but not limited to:

  • Managing the full life cycle of project enquiries from initial enquiry through to estimation, submission, clarifications, negotiations and contract award
  • Develop a strong understanding of clients commercial and technical requirements
  • Produce and deliver high-quality, technical and commercial bid documentation on time. Ensuring that structured responses are written in the context of Powersystems values and unique selling points
  • Set out and build-up detailed project costings

Here’s what you need to be successful in the role:

  • Have proven capability and technical competence in producing technical cost estimates, delivering tenders within the electrical infrastructure sector (transmission or distribution) in renewable energy, EV, Commercial and Industrial, generation and grid stability markets or highly allied experience
  • Good technical, commercial knowledge and the ability to interpret complex documents, and strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Excellent IT skills especially MS Office
  • Sound commercial acumen
  • Knowledge of High Voltage products, substations, utility networks and ICP works will be an advantage
  • Strong report writing skills and the ability to communicate technical and commercial information in a clear and concise manner

The Design Manager will ensure that the department produces designs that conform to statutory requirements, meet the design specification and are commercially viable.   • Prepare design packages for DNO contestable works and electrical balance of plant works (private works) from 11 kV to 132 kV
  • Work closely with the in-house Design Engineers and CAD technicians to generate equipment layouts, cable route drawings, construction, and legal plans for new HV connections
  • Manage and review simulation studies for generation connections undertaken by other consultants or carried out in-house, including load flow, reactive power capability, fault level analysis, power quality, and harmonic studies to demonstrate compliance with Engineering Recommendations, the Distribution Code, the Grid Code, and industry standards
  • Attend sites for inspection and design purposes and attend manufacturers factory acceptance tests when required
  • Build relationships with clients, and attend design and project co-ordination meetings with clients, their consultants, and DNO and TNO representatives

  • Update and compile company standards to facilitate the production of in-house simulation studies. Setout the studies design process, templates and deliverables for system studies

  • Produce AC/DC schematics for protection, control, and SCADA panels, and liaise with our in-house panel assemblers on the construction of panels
  • Select HV and LV cables and design cable routes using CYMCAP and Amtech software
  • Prepare multicore cable schedules
  • Manage and review simulation studies for generation connections undertaken by other consultants or carried out in-house, including load flow, reactive power capability, fault level analysis, power quality, and harmonic studies to demonstrate compliance with Engineering Recommendations, the Distribution Code, the Grid Code, and industry standards
  • Attend sites for inspection and design purposes and attend manufacturers factory acceptance tests when required

  • Responsibility for effective project management and delivery across a diverse range of electrical HV projects including liaison with clients, consultants, and their representatives. Produce project construction programmes and manage activities to the construction programme.   • Able to plan-ahead and prioritise workload
  • Able to follow business processes whilst managing multiple time pressured tasks
  • Degree, HND in Electrical Engineering or similar field (or working towards HND)
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Right to work within the UK without limitation
  • Must be available to travel on work related business throughout the UK with occasional overnight stays

Desirable criteria:

  •  Experience of work within the high voltage sector
  • Obtained or working towards professional registration with the IET at IENG / CENG level
  • Experienced in management of teams of site personnel
  • Open to change, resilient and proactive
