We Are Recruiting For An Senior Quantity Surveyor

  • Salary £70,000-£85,000 per annum dependent on qualifications and experience

Duties and responsibilities of the role include, but not limited to:

  • Build and maintain professional collaborative relationships with both internal and external parties
  • Provide commercial advice to the project team, and management on all contractual issues
  • Monitor project budgets, track expenses, and ensure cost control and cashflow throughout the project lifecycle
  • Manage the procurement process, including sourcing and negotiating contracts with suppliers and subcontractors through to Final Account
  • Review and administer contracts, ensuring compliance with terms and conditions, and support the resolution of any contractual disputes
  • Identify and assess potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate them, ensuring project success and minimising financial losses
  • Identify opportunities to minimise project costs and enhance value without compromising quality or functionality
  • Prepare and attend the monthly project review process and work closely with Project Managers and Engineers to produce accurate timely progress reports and ongoing forecasting for the life of the project
  • Manage and mentor junior staff within the commercial team.
  • Provide support to the Head of Commercial, Head of Projects and Directors.

Here’s what you need to be successful in the role:

  • At least 3-5 years’ experience within a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor role
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field is required.
  • A professional qualification or working towards, such as RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) or equivalent is highly desirable
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Proficiency in using relevant software such as Sage (or equivalent) and other tools for quantity surveying, cost estimation, and project management
  • Proven track record of successfully managing and delivering construction projects within budget and time constraints.
  • Experience in cost estimation, budget management, contract administration, and procurement
  • Proficiency in financial management, including cost forecasting, budget analysis, and risk assessment
  • Ability to interpret and analyse complex data and financial reports
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and coordinate with other professionals involved in the project
  • Excellent negotiation and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with clients, contractors, and other project stakeholders

   Desirable criteria:

  • Exeperience within an engineering or construction environment
  • Experience within a Senior or Managerial role

  • Manage the electrical engineering interfaces within the project scope to generate equipment layouts, single line diagrams and technical electrical design packages including cable schedules, technical calculations and testing, and commissioning procedures
  • Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers on design, installation, and commissioning. Manage the procurement process with the Procurement Manager, obtaining competitive tenders from the supply chain and supporting the Procurement Manager with technical submissions and queries. Attend manufacturers factory acceptance tests when required
  • Co-ordinate with the Design Engineer and Project Engineer to determine roles and responsibilities within the project team

  • Review and compile safe systems of work for operational tasks in line with Powersystems Approved Procedures and HV Safety Rules
  • Produce Non-Conformance Reports on technical deviations
  • Attend site project coordination meetings and undertake inspections / audits of site works to monitor quality, progress, manage commercial aspects of the project in line with statutory requirements
  • Provide proactive support and guidance to all parties on compliance with statutory requirements and company standards
  • Submit project requirements, technical information, programme and scope of works to Powersystems Commissioning Manager to manage the commissioning process
  • Manage and review simulation studies for generation connections undertaken by other consultants or carried out in-house, including load flow, reactive power capability, fault level analysis, power quality, and harmonic studies to demonstrate compliance with Engineering Recommendations, the Distribution Code, the Grid Code, and industry standards
  • Option to undertake HV switching operations, work towards authorisation under the Company’s HV rules and develop skills to become an Authorised Person (AP) or Senior Authorised Person (SAP)

  • Salary  up to £60,000 per annum on basic hours, overtime and travel

  • This role will require you to work away and frequent travel throughout the UK

Duties and responsibilities of the role include, but not limited to:

  • Installations of sub-station earthing to specified drawings with oxygen and propane brazing or exothermic welding
  • Installations of containment including, uni-strut, cable ladder & tray
  • Carry out testing and inspection of installations ductor testing and recording results
  • Carry out installations of high voltage structures and equipment up to 132 kV
  • Conduct quality checks on completed assemblies to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Assist other trades with installation on site as required
  • Work without supervision in an efficient and economical manner.
  • Set out jobs/tasks from drawings and specifications. Requisition the necessary installation materials.
  • Supervise, direct and positively motivate less experienced staff and apprentices.
  • Mentor and coach less experienced staff in developing their skills and knowledge.
  • Ensure all tools and equipment are pre-arranged and inspected prior to arrival to site
  • Ensure all tools, equipment and material are kept in good working order and any defects rectified in a timely manner

Duties and responsibilities of the role include, but not limited to:

  • Actively maintain Management Systems ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 and assist with annual reviews of SHEQ Management Systems

​The purpose of this role is to effectively manage the site operations team to install and commission a diverse range of electrical HV projects for Powersystems. As Site Manager you will also need to take responsibility for ensuring all projects are installed and commissioned in line with Company procedures, within the agreed time-frame and with due regard to Health, Safety and Well-being.

Duties and responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Attend and provide input to regular meetings with Operations Manager to ensure efficient and effective management of site
  • Prepare for and complete internal and external audits with SHEQ team
  • Ensure all tools, equipment and materials are pre-arranged and inspected prior to arrival to site
  • Ensure all tools, equipment and material are kept in good working order and any defects rectified in a timely manner
  • Liaise with client and Project Engineer/Manager to co-ordinate all planned works
  • Build and maintain relationships with our clients and supply chain partners.
  • Contribute to the future success of Powersystems and clients
  • Proactively look at ways to enhance the service offered by the business, and improve the efficiency of company processes

Here’s what you need to be successful in the role:

  • 3 years’ experience in a supervisory capacity in charge of complex electrical installations or have exceptional technical skill, ability and experience beyond that of previous position
  • Successfully completed and implement SMSTS training
  • Minimum of 2-3 years’ relevant experience of electrical engineering within the electrical contracting or utility industries
  • Able to follow business processes whilst managing multiple time pressured tasks
  • Full UK driving licence

 Desirable criteria:

  • Experience of work within the high voltage sector
  • Experience of using Microsoft Office

  • Manage in-house design and engineering teams to generate equipment layouts, designs, cable schedules, testing, and commissioning procedures
  • Liaise with suppliers and manufactures on design, installation, and commissioning. Obtain competitive tenders from the supply chain. Attend manufacturers factory acceptance tests when required
  • Attending pre-start and kick off and ongoing client meetings
  • Purchase procurement for project
  • Identifying and organising resourcing and logistical requirements for projects
  • Organising project briefings for on site management
  • Complete project review documentation
  • Provide proactive support and guidance to all parties on compliance with statutory requirements and company standards
  • Manage the interface between Powersystems, client / network operator commissioning and third-party engineers
